One Year Ago

One year ago, we were in Cherokee North Carolina on a school trip when we got word the mom had died. After that we had figured that mom would be happiest being scattered to the wind. I thought at the time that Clingman’s Dome, being the highest point in the Smokies, would be an appropriate place for her ashes.

This year we returned on the same school trip and I took the ashes up the mountain and scattered them off a beautiful ledge pictured below. It was a windy day which seemed totally appropriate.

Rest in peace, Mom, as we commemorate one year.

When did you meet Rosemary?

By the time a person lives past 90, people have connected to that person in many different places at many different times. When those people come together and report how they met Rosemary, it will be interesting for the rest of us to watch the circles of her family and acquaintances appear. Please reply to this message with a little note about how you met Rosemary, and we’ll see what develops.

She was a professional homemaker

Rosemary made a career out of maintaining a well ordered home for her family. Her children used to joke about how when they got up in the middle of the night to use the bathroom, their beds would be made by the time they returned!

No service planned

Bob, Ron, and Holly feel their mother’s life will best be honored as she lives in the memories of the people who knew her.  Instead of having a service in Indianapolis,  there will be small moments in different parts of the country as people gather to spread a few of her ashes in the wind and say little prayers of thanksgiving for her
life. This web site will remain active as a place for people to post and read memories of Rosemary Cox Berry McGaughey.

Hats

Hats – Rosemary was known for her hats. In earlier days were often pillbox hats or close fitting hats with flowers. Later on, they were often wide brimmed straw hats  that looked so cute on her that people often complimented her on the hat she was wearing. Typically, after receiving a compliment about her hat, she would offer to give it to the person who had remarked about it.

Several of her hats came from a particular booth at Orchard in Bloom. Some of the ones that received the most compliments came from Sullivan’s Hardware. It was a combination of a good-looking hat on a good-looking lady that brought the compliments.

When the household items were sold in the estate sale, there was an entire table of hats on display.

Love, Love, Love

Rosemary Cox Berry McGaughey was born on June 8, 1922, in Indianapolis, Indiana. She died in her sleep a few weeks before her 91st birthday on May 15, 2013. Between 1922 and 2013 she spread her love and sweet spirit wherever she went. In fact, if you knew Rosemary, you probably heard her talking about “Love, love, love” as the way to live in all situations.
